Humber Valley Sharks Novice Selects Win Tournament!
![]() On Sunday January 23rd, the Humber Valley Sharks Novice Select Team won the Amesbury Winter Classic Select Tournament. The 3-day Tournament hosted 8 teams from across the Greater Toronto Area. A true team effort with strong defensive play and solid goaltending that allowed only 5 goals against during the entire tournament. The coaches and parents were very proud of how the players dug deep and played very well as a team that led the Sharks to their first tournament win! Humber Valley Sharks Peewee "A" Win Silver Stick Regional Tournament in Vaughan!
![]() They will move on to the International Silver Stick Final being held in Port Huron, Michigan Jan 26–29 in which 8 teams from Canada and 8 teams from the US will be participating. The top 3 A teams from the GTHL West Division, the top 4 teams from the MHL and Whitby competed in this tournament. After qualifying through the preliminary round, in the semi–final the Sharks played their archrival from the GTHL whom they are battling for first place, the Vaughan Rangers. Both teams had numerous scoring chances in the 3rd, but could not score the deciding goal in regulation. In the first overtime period, the Sharks scored to earn a birth in the final. The Sharks played Clarkson, the first place team from the MHL in the final. It was an incredibly close game but the Sharks finally broke the deadlock with 5 minutes to go in the game to win the final 1–0! 2nd Tournament Victory! ![]() On Sunday December 11th, the Humber Valley Sharks Minor Peewee "A" won the "Motown Classic" held in Detroit, Michigan. The 3–day Tournament hosted 6 teams from across Southern Ontario and Detroit. The Sharks were victorious in the semi-final by a 1–0 margin over the Oakridge Aeros. The Sharks carried the momentum into the finals with a strong effort in the championship game to take down the previously undefeated Aurora Tigers by a score of 2–1. A true team effort with strong defensive play and solid goaltending that only allowed 1 goal against in the play–offs. The coaches and parents were very proud of how the players dug deep and played very well as a team that led the Sharks to their second tournament win this year! HUMBER VALLEY BANTAM A SHARKS
WIN HUSKIES EARLY BIRD TOURNAMENT ![]() The Humber Valley BANTAM A team won the Humberview Huskies Bill Reaman Memorial Early Bird ’A’ Tournament held September 15–18, 2011, at Westwood Arenas. The Sharks went undefeated in the preliminary round with three wins and one tie to advance to the Final against the Willowdale Blackhawks of the GTHL East Division. The Blackhawks advanced to the Final with an unblemished record of four wins and no losses. In the Final the Sharks came out "fast and furious", overwhelming Willowdale by a score of 7 – 1. Jackson Watts of the Sharks, who scored a hat trick in the Final game, was named Tournament MVP. Congratulations to all the players and coaches for a very exciting weekend of hockey and best of luck in the upcoming season! |

Mississauga Early Bird Champs! ![]() On Sunday September 18th, the Humber Valley Sharks Minor Peewee "AA" GTHL team followed up the previous week’s tournament win of the Richmond Hill Early Bird Tournament by winning the Mississauaga Early Bird Tournament. The Sharks who now have started the season on a 11–0 winning streak turned aside challenges from the Toro’s, Caledon Hawks, M–Jets, M–Terriers, Streetsville and ultimately in the Final game downing Scarborough’s GTHL East’s – Ted Reeve Raiders 3–1 in a hard fought contest. Congratulations on a great team effort and start of a promising season!! |

Humber Valley Sharks Atom A — 2nd Tournament Victory!
![]() On Sunday January 23rd, the Humber Valley Sharks Atom "A" team won the 53rd Annual Preston International Hockey Tournament held in Cambridge/Kitchener. The Tournament hosted 88 teams in total of which 8 were from the Atom "A" division across Southern Ontario (Kitchener, London, Hamilton) in this 3–day tournament. The Sharks were victorious in the semi–final by a 2–1 margin over the Hamilton Hub Spitfires. The Sharks scored eight minutes into overtime of the championship game to take down the previously undefeated Kitchener Jr. Rangers by a score of 2–1. A true team effort with strong defensive play and solid goaltending that only allowed 2 goals against in the play–offs. The coaches and parents were very proud of the "never–give-up" attitude that led the Sharks to their second tournament win this year! Humber Valley Sharks Atom A — Tournament Champions!
![]() On Sunday November 7th, the Humber Valley Sharks Atom "A" GTHL team won the 30th Annual Jerry Jacobs Memorial Hockey Tournament held in Markham, Ontario. The Sharks took down the previously undefeated Nepean Raiders 2–1 in the Final. The Markham Islanders hosted 12 teams from across Ontario (Sudbury, Ottawa, Burlington, Toronto and London) in this 3–day tournament. The Sharks faced a do–or–die game against one of the top teams from the GTHL East in their final round robin game and came out on top to solidify a spot in the play–offs. Their strong defensive play and solid goaltending led to only one goal against in the 3 play–off games on Sunday. It was a weekend of hard–fought hockey, team play and proud parents. A real team effort! ![]() January 25, 2010 Hyde Park Pavillion, Niagara Falls, NY - The Humber Valley Tyke team won the Gene Harrington Winter Ice Experience tournament in New York this past weekend. Playing a concerted team style, the Sharks defeated their arch-nemesis, the talented Port Credit Storm team twice on the weekend; once during the qualifying round and then again in a thrilling final game to go undefeated and claim their first tournament crown. Special thanks to: team manager, Lesley Hirasawa for organizing a truly memorable experience for the boys, along with practice coach John Hollins and goalie coach Steve Miller for their tremendous dedication and mentorship for the team. TO WIN BLIZZARD CHALLENGE NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Humber Valley Sharks Minor Peewee “A” team swept to victory in the Niagara Falls Blizzard Challenge on January 19 at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion in Niagara Falls, New York. The Sharks won a hard fought battle in the final game with the Markham Islanders, winning 3 – 1 with the final goal scored into an empty net. The Blizzard Challenge featured teams from New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey, Ontario and Ohio. “The Sharks played consistently well throughout the tournament.” says Team Co-Manager Frank Di Giulio. “The Markham Islanders and the other teams we faced were tough competition, but the boys worked extremely hard and were very focused and determined. The forwards, defensemen and especially the goaltending stood up to all tests. Team Gives Back! ![]() Players and extended family of the GTHL Sharks Minor Atom AA 1999 team, coached by David Haslam, recently gave back to their local community by spending 4 hours sorting and packing over 4,000 pounds of food at the Daily Bread Food Bank located in Etobicoke. “Great to see the young kids getting involved and giving back” was a comment made by more senior observers. Our thanks to all who participated in what is expected to be an annual event by the hockey program. |

Ann Arbor Tournament Champs! ![]() Congratulations to the Humber Valley Sharks Atom AA Team for capturing their first International Tournament victory with an thrilling win over the Grosse Pointe Bulldogs in the Firebolt Classic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Sharks, easily adapting their style to align with USA Hockey rules, were undefeated in regular tournament play. They secured the win by dominating the shoot-out after regulation time and the 2 overtime periods left both teams dead-locked in a tie! All the boys rose to the occasion and played some of their best hockey of the season - special mention to goalie Adrian Clark who stonewalled the Bulldogs in the shoot-out, and Tyler MacKay who was named Tournament MVP. The Black Hawks ended the regular season and playoffs in first place overall, truly a team effort. SHARKS BRING HOME THE GOLD ![]() The Humber Valley Sharks Minor Atom A Team receives a confident booster by capturing the America Cup Championship in late January at the Olympic Centre in Lake Placid. The 9 year olds won their division at this U.S. tournament by defeating the Quincy Stars of Massachusetts 2 to 1 in a very exciting sudden death overtime championship game. It was an outstanding performance by all players. The winning goal in overtime was scored by the tournament MVP, Bennett King, assisted by his hard working line mate, Jackson Suboch. Humber Valley's goaltender, Shawn Miller, was selected player of the game during the championship finals. The Sharks had a perfect 3 and 0 record beating both American teams from Massachusetts and one from Quebec who were all participating in the Miracle Division. The Sharks also had two of their players, Carter Sprigings and Léo Bourgeois finished first in the skills competition which included two players from each Minor Atom and Atom team at the tournament. It is important to note that this impressive victory was only possible by the hard work and unselfish play of all the players. Teamwork says it all. Humber Valley's other team members include Andrew Young, Adam Pappas, Nicholas Tatarsky, Grayson Engelman, Reid Tobiason, Devan Scholefield, David Mochenko, Grayson Wesley, Oliver Philpott, Victor Corridore and Braedan Thompson. The club's coaching staff include Toby Tobiason, Paul Miller, Warren Sprigings, Stewart Thompson and George Pappas. An excellent job by all the families cheering on our team. The Humber Valley Sharks Minor Midget AA team emerged victoriously from the recent Mississauga North Star Pre-Christmas Classic Tournament. The team had an undefeated record in the round robin, with 2 wins and a tie and beat West Mall in the semi-final 4-2. There was no score after the first 2 periods of the final, but the third period produced a 2-1 victory for the Sharks over the Milton team...Congratulations to all the players! |

The Humber Valley Sharks Minor Peewee AA team completed a triple play at the completion of their 2003/2004 season. In March the team won their third consecutive Carnation Cup and on April 7th won the GTHL City Championships for an unbelievable third year in a row ! The series was a hard fought affair against the Eastern Champs, The Toronto Penguins, with the winning goal coming from Mike Dart late in the third period of Game 5.

![]() Wednesday, January 21 American Cup Champions / Lake Placid, New York HUMBER VALLEY SHARKS MINOR PEEWEE "A" TEAM BRINGS HOME ALL THE GOLD Congratulations to the boys for their victory this past weekend in the American Cup Tournament at the Olympic Centre, LAKE PLACID. The Humber Valley Sharks beat the "AA" New England Moose 3-1 with an outstanding performance by goaltender Geoff Kosmala in the final game. The Moose have won 3 of their last 4 tournaments this season. The three goals were scored by team members: Chris Young(C), Conor Eustace(A), & Cam DeSilva. This fast physical tournament was an eye opener for most of the players and the Sharks clearly demonstrated that they were the most talented group on and off the ice. Provincial Champions !
![]() The Humber Valley Sharks Atom AA team truly had a dream season in 2002/2003. In January the team headed down to 401 to Sarnia where they went head to head with some of the best teams in North America to win the North American Silver Stick Championship. The team ended up finishing first in GTHL's Western Division capturing their second consecutive Carnation Cup in as many years. They then went on to defeat the North York Knights for the City Championship. April saw the team in Stoney Creek competing for the OHF Provincial Championship. There were some great games that weekend as the Shark's competed against the best teams from around the province. The boys played amazing hockey and finished the tournament undefeated and as gold medal winners ! Many thanks to Head Coach John Italiano, Assistant Coaches John Hawkrigg and Ken Ferizovic and Trainer Dean Dart for a very special season. The Shark players are: Goalies, Matt O'Connor and Grant Cleland, Defencemen, Garrett Daly, Thomas Nosella, Nathan Mooney and Clarke Thompson, Forwards, Michael Hawkrigg, Johnny Mormile, David Horvatin, Mike Dart, Andrew Ferizovic, David Italiano, Stephen Greenham, David Moore and Michael Grant. |

Sports Weekend Extravaganza Tourney
With superb goaltending, great defense, and a true TEAM effort, the Humber Valley Bantam Select Sharks exploded into offensive high gear and swept all four games outscoring the opposition 27 goals ( 29 assists) to 7. With four strong regulars out for the final game, the Sharks had only one thing on their minds, to bring the cup home to Canada. With disciplined play, great direction from the bench, a decisive final win and a chorus of "Oh Canada " the cup came home! Congratulations Humber Valley team players: Colin Burke, Andrew Edwards, Chris Gilmour, Keith Hurst, Scott Hutchison, James Kisil, Conner McAneney, Tim Melnyk (MVP), A.J. Pereira, Ross Rheaume, Jesse Roy, Eric Scholey, Ted Sczelecki, Matthew Skea, Derek Stewart, Kyle Wisswell and Douglas Wright.
